Drama & Documentary, Audio & Theatre, History & Politics
Kate Lawrence, (that’s me), is an independent audio producer, with a storytellers heart, a lawyer’s logic, a lyrical ear.
I move across storytelling mediums perhaps a little readily, and while I am a writer, it is the human voice that most appeals - in audio and in live performance.
I have created several long form podcast series that follow a narrative through line, interwoven with history, reflection, commentary and advocacy for how we can build a better, more equal world. A tall order.
I also love doing oral history interviews, sitting with people in spacious time to deeply hear their stories.
I am now exploring playwriting which seems a natural fit for my interest and experiences in oral storytelling, writing, community development, politics and reflection.
Why Story?
Story grounds us in our bodies, in our emotions; story weaves us whole and nothing casts the spell of enchantment like story.

Democracy After Disaster
One of the things natural disasters do really well is rip away our sense of control. And so it's critical that the road of recovery is paved with voice and agency.
We need new ideas for how governments can share power, for how communities can step up and for how democracy works in the wake of a disaster.
Democracy After Disaster is a 9 part narrative documentary podcast.
