Living in a Gendered World

Living in a Gendered World was a unique and engaging community storytelling project in the Macedon Ranges Shire in 2019. It was an innovative program where participants explored how gender had influenced their life through crafting a personal story, which they then shared in a public performance.

Participants were invited from all walks of life: a mixture of women, men, gender diverse people, young people, older people, people with disabilities, and people of diverse cultural backgrounds to participate in the project.

Participants nominated themselves to one of three groups - women, men or gender diverse. Each group attended a 2 day storytelling workshop at Hanging Rock over two weekends. In between and after the workshops, participants worked with Kate Lawrence in individual coaching sessions, to draft and craft their story.

Then all participants came together for a day to practice their stories, meet the other participants, connect and listen.

The project culminated in ten participants sharing a story at a public event at the Bluestone Theatre in in Kyneton on December 5, 2019 during the 16 days of activism against gender based violence.

The stories were recorded and will eventually be published via podcast.
