What I’m doing now

Last updated October 2025

This page describes where I’m at now — what I’m focused on, and what I’m not.  Every so often I’ll update this page.

Right now…

  • I am immensely relieved, stressed, proud and ambivalent about finally publishing ‘Democracy After Disaster’, a narrative documentary podcast that I've been working on, on and off over the last four years. There is something strange that happens in my relationship with anything I've created, when I share it. I was hoping with this one, because I created most of the episodes before publication, that I could somehow separate myself from the work and see it as if it was made by some other person. So far that does not seem to be the case, but it has only been a day so there’s still time I guess. Then I will be promoting it whenever I can, or hiding under my desk…

  • I am very excited to be turning towards my latest creative leaning - playwriting - as I have now completed several major projects that I’ve had on the go for the year. (The other one was an oral history of the Victorian Women’s Football league, most of which has now been lodged with the State Library.)

  • Next weekend I will catch the train to Sydney to attend a two day playwriting workshop, see my first play at the Sydney Opera House (The Shiralee) and hang out with my great friend and podcasting buddy Jane Curtis.

  • Then a few weeks later I head to Tasmania to research and start writing the first play I want to do about Dr Constance Stone, (the first woman registered to practice medicine in Australia). I will also be doing the Walls of Jerusalem hike with my son and daughter. Fingers crossed for the weather.

  • Speaking of hiking, I am still riding high after doing the amazing Light to Light hike near Eden a few weeks ago, with my dear friend from Uni Nonni and a mob of her friends. The whales were incredible!

  • I have continued working on several projects for Macedon and Mt Macedon Landcare, as well as being on the committee, and I’m looking forward to our last environmental movie night and end of year celebration in early December.

  • I am reading a play script at least once a month, and then discussing it with my wonderful local play reading group ‘Script Scrutineers’, and attending lots of live theatre with anyone who’ll join me.

  • As always at this time of year I am clearing up around the place as the weeds and grass grow, and the fire season inches ever closer.
