Story Game (Copy)

Story Ground Storytelling Game

This ‘game’ is an experiential way of learning and practising a range of storytelling processes and skills in bite size chunks. It is a reflective game that relies on allowing each player the time and space to speak without being interrupted or questioned. It requires mindfulness of time.

Keep notes of your questions and thoughts.

It was originally played in person and this adaptation for online zoom rooms is new and hopefully works.

To begin, each person gives a two minute overview of their story. The next part of the game is played by each person being given one question to speak to, from four piles of questions, loosely organised into these categories: Character, Emotions, Expression and Sense. Finally there are round of Reflection questions.

Instructions for playing:

Assign a timekeeper. This game can easily blow out with time, so please be very mindful.

Part 1 Each person gives an outline of their story in 2 minutes.

Part 2: The first person clicks on the Character image below to be taken to the question set for that colour. They click through to be randomly assigned a question. They then have a maximum of 1 minute to respond.

If the question or prompt on the card has no resonance for you at all, you can click ‘Next’ to be given a different question.

Each person answers one question and then you begin the round again, until all players have answered one question from each colour.

Part 3: Players have one minute to respond to a question from the Reflection button to the right. This round is repeated, so each person ends up responding to two reflection questions.

Part 4: In this round each player can help their teammates stories, by thinking about one aspect of their story that they wanted to know more about, either because it was important, or confusing or any other reason.

Each player types into the chat box for each of the other players:

Name: ‘Tell me more about….. ‘ but ONLY 3 – 5 words.

After everyone has written something for each other person, each player then has two minutes to respond in whatever way they like to any and all of the comments made.
