Episode 7 – The Trough

Gisborne resident Melvyn, has been busking at Woodend Coles while composing about Percy Grainger, Judy Brown shares her poem, and we hear why equality is better for everyone. Ainslie tells us about school of the net, Vicki’s house is clean and Mother’s Day carries a weighty history. And of course seven little Australian’s are in strife.

The music that is played in Melvyn’s interview was created by Melvyn.  It is improvised from a deep meditative state: It is called In the Depths of Night, because that was when he created it, in his home in Gisborne, where he has a recording studio/living-room. There is a wonderful stillness here, late at night and in the early hours of the morning. That stillness is magical.

You can find out more about Melvyn at his website here, and listen to more of his music and some of his poetry here.

Loving this episode. Having heard Melvyn speak at several of your storytelling events, it’s a joy to be taken deeper into his life, and his thinking. This is my favourite Covid interview so far. Enjoying the podcast enormously and connecting with the people in Macedon from my home on the basalt plains. I shall try and follow Melvyn’s example and ‘make friends with the cold’.
